Where is the HEPA filter within the Hood & the Cuff Systems?

The HEPA filter is an integral part of the hood, which fits over the helmet. The HEPA filter cap is placed over the helmet in the cuff system, and does not have an attached shroud.

Where does the air supply come from?

The motor and fan are drawing in ambient air at the top of the helmet through the HEPA filter, down over the helmet towards the front of the face, with the airflow flowing down. While wearing the MAXAIR hooded system and tucking the shroud into the Tyvek suit; the air flows through the suit keeping the worker’s entire body cooler.

Is the entire hood disposable?
  Yes.

How long does the HEPA filter last?

The filter lasts an average of 4 weeks, depending on the level of particulate the worker is exposed to.  If the yellow LED light comes on, it is time to replace the old hood or cap with a new one. If the worker experiences any change in the airflow or senses a change in the airflow, the filter should be immediately checked and replaced if necessary.  This may be sooner than the 4-6 weeks, depending upon the exposure level in your facility.  Infection control applications may involve using the filter once & disposing of the filter according to standard operating procedures for disposing of contaminated waste.

How do I know when to change the filter?
  Two ways:
1) The yellow LED indicator light will come on.
2) The worker will sense a slight change in the airflow coming into the hood.

What material is the lens?
  Polycarbonate.

What is the advantage of the tear away disposable lens cover?

It protects the primary lens from deterioration and increases the life of the lens.  It also reduces time needed to clean since the tear away lens can be replaced when it becomes dirty.

What is the pre filter for and how long does it last?

The pre-filter protects the HEPA filter hood or cap and increases the life of the filter.  The pre-filter must be worn to be in compliance with NIOSH approvals and will last approximately 6-8 weeks depending upon the level of contaminates.

Can you recharge the lead acid gel battery, how long does it take?

Yes.  The charge time is directly related to how long you use the battery.  Example: If you use it 8 hours, charge it for 8 hours.

How long does the battery last?

Lead acid gel battery lasts 10-12 hours. The lithium-ion battery lasts 8-10 hours.

Is the system NIOSH approved?
  Yes.

Where is the air channeled through?
In the back of the helmet there are two openings where the air is channeled through the top.

What is the meaning of NRP regardint the filter media?

N R P 95 100 - This refers to the efficiency of the filter.

N means you cannot use the filter in an environment with oil mists.

R means the filter is oil resistant, and will have to be replaced before 8 hours.

P means the filter is oil proof and may last for more than an 8 hour shift.

The 95 and 100 mean the filter is filtering out 95% and 100% of the contaminant, respectively.  HEPA by definition filters out 99.97% of the contaminant

Is your lens fog proof?
Yes, since the air is flowing down over the user’s face.

How much airflow is coming inside the helmet?
6-8 cubic feet of air per minute (cfm) or 175 – 230 liters per minute (lpm).

Where does the air inside the Tyvek suit go?

Some of the air is channeled out of the shroud of the filter hood and filters out 99% of this air. The rest is flowing throughout the suit. This air is filtered up to 99%

Can I shake out the pre-filter to make it last longer?
It is best to cold water wash out after each use and let air dry.

What is your warranty?
1 year on motor, 1 year on the Li-Ion battery and 6 months on the Lead Acid battery

How many hours will the motor last?

PRINCIPLE SYSTEM   2000-100   will last approx 1,500 hours.
PRIMARY SYSTEM   2000-400/500   will last approximately 2,000 hours.
PREMIER SYSTEM   200-600/800   will last approximately 2,500 hours.

No.  The power cords are in-field serviceable.  Contact Customer Service to obtain additional power cords.

Are the comfort strips (sweatbands) replaceable?
Yes. To replace the front sweatbands, use as is. To replace the back sweatband, cut in half and replace per the instructions

Will water harm the HEPA filter?
No. The filter is water resistant when exposed to moisture.

What is the tie for around the HEPA hood?
This is a NIOSH requirement in order to achieve an adequate fit

What do the red and yellow LED lights mean?
The red light indicates a low battery. The yellow light indicates low air flow.

Does your PAPR protect to the same degree as the competition?
  Yes

What level does your HEPA filter protect to?
N100 efficiency, and by definition filters out 99.97% of the particulate @ .1 micron.

How noisy is your system?
The system averages a decibel rating of 62 or lower.

Do I need to be fit tested?

No.  Since the airflow is 6-8 cfm, this is positive pressure and the worker does not need to be fit tested.  However, the Pulmonary Function Test, PFT, must be conducted per regulations.

Can I wear this system if I have a beard and wear glasses?

Yes, since this is a loose fitting PAPR and is providing positive pressure.

How many volts and/or amps is your battery?
Lead Acid Gel battery is 6V, 7AH.
The lithium-Ion battery is 14.8V 4AH

What types of industries use your product?

Pharmaceutical
Infection Control
Forensic
Woodworking
Fiberglass
Powder Coating
General Manufacturing
Mold Abatement
Lab/Research

Can I use this for painting?

Not at this time.  A nuisance level OV application is under development.

Is there a version built into a hard hart?

Not at this time.  A hard hat version is in development.
